Patio Furniture Covers

Patio furniture protective covers are as necessary for expensive patio furniture as it is for the most least expensive.  You just need to multiple replacement costs and you’ll most likely arrive at the conclusion that whether you purchase custom patio furniture covers for your expensive set or ignore your least expensive set the costs can be quite different but you may lose money in the end.Outdoor rocking chairs, restaurant grade patio furniture or high end wicker patio furniture are designed with the outdoor elements in mind. 

Regardless, protective covers are a good idea.  Wicker patio furniture covers and outdoor rocking chair covers may require more customized fittings, but need to be protected as well.  Heavy-duty patio furniture covers are needed for extreme conditions.  So you’ll want an outdoor patio furniture protective cover that’s appropriate for these conditions.

Commercial grade vinyl is generally used in most covers for outdoor furniture.  This material totally waterproofs. The same materials are used for custom patio furniture covers and are hot sun resistant, UV treated and injected with fleece backs. The 7 mil. Thick is soft and durable and designed to last for many years. Outdoor rocking chairs may require custom furniture covers for protection against rain, harsh weather and pollution conditions if that’s a concern in your areas.

Keeping your covers clean is also important to securing your patio furniture.  They are going to shield your furniture from the elements, so after removing them they should be cleaned, dried and treated appropriately to reduce potential mold and mildew build up.

On another note, if you decide to use cheaper plastic patio furniture covers do not use it to cover wood furniture.  This would be a good way to rot your outdoor rocking chairs.
Wicker patio furniture covers are specially designed so that moisture will not remain in and the wicker.  If there is no air getting through, moisture will damage the furniture. Even canvas sun umbrella tops can rot due to surplus moisture if they remain covered while damp. The best patio furniture protective cover is canvas.  It breaths, allows excess moisture to escape, thus keeping the material of which it is made dry.

Weatherproof vinyl slips over the top of your furniture, leaving the bottom of the furniture open.  Vinyl is breathable and is suitable for long term use. They are secured over or around the furniture using Velcro straps or other means to hold them in place.

If your custom designed or otherwise outdoor furniture covers begin to wear then they should be replaced. They can only remain waterproof if the seams are secure, they show little fading from sunlight and have been treated for UV light.

Not everybody has enough storage space in the garage or basement for their patio furniture.  Leaving it outside is a viable option as long as you have appropriate covering.

The average life of patio furniture covers is about three years.  Replacing them when they show signs of wear is usually cheaper than replacing your patio furniture set. The cost is an investment well spent over the long run.
